Socrates

Socrates (c. 469-399 BCE)

“A man who really fights for justice must lead a private, not a public, life if he is to survive for even a short time.”

  • This saying, attributed to Socrates, was recorded in Plato’s Apology (section 32a). The translation used here is by G. M. A. Grube, revised by John M. Cooper (Hackett Publishing, 2000).
